Korea’s men’s team claim the runner-up spot in the Thomas Cup


Korea’s men’s team was up against tough opponents in the final of the Thomas Cup. The Korean’s tried to throw the Chinese off-balance by changing their line-up, using the same recipe that had proved successful for their women in the Uber Cup of 2010. The 2012 Uber Cup final was a repeat of 2010, with Korea facing China. Up against the formidable Chinese, the Korean women put up a good fight in an attempt to cause an upset. Defending champions Korean Uber Team had a slight shock when Pai Hsiao Ma took the lead for Chinese Taipei with an upset victory over Bae Youn Joo, her first in their 4 meetings. There was more excitement than at any other time since the competitions started at the VICTOR display area in the carnival outside the Thomas & Uber cups venue when,at 6.30 pm on May 21, Korea national team stars Lee Yong Dae, Yoo Yeon Seong and Ko Sung Hyun appeared on time and signed autographs and had their photographs taken with scores of enthusiastic fans.



Many fans began queuing up well before the autograph session after hearing the news of the appearance of these VICTOR stars.A background wall with the VICTOR logo was filled with messages of support and encouragement for the players from fans. A constant stream of fans arrived carrying shirts for the stars to sign, filling the display area to bursting point. Quite a few children were also brought to the event by their parents, proudly showing the autographs of the stars they had obtained to onlookers... <FULL ARTICLE>

BWF World Rankings for April 2012


After months of racket string-like tension players were at last able to relax at the end of April



At the end of the last Olympic qualifying tournament, the Indian Open, at the end of April, no matter if a player actually qualified for the London Olympics or missed the cut, they were all able to heave a sigh of relief and, after a bit of mental and target adjustment, they will soon be ready to start afresh



The BWF rankings released on May 3, 2012 showed that, after the top ranked players all played well in April, they all stayed in their respective top spots in the world rankings (men’s singles:Lee Chong Wei, men’s doubles: Cai Yun/Fu Hai Feng, women’s singles: Wang Yi Han, women’s doubles: Wang Xiao Li/Yu Yang and mixed doubles: Zhang Nan/Zhao Yun Lei).... <FULL ARTICLE>

Five players enjoy first Superseries success

Korean players did well at the Sunrise India Open 2012, taking home two titles and a second place.  Shon Wan Ho beat world No. 1 men’s player Lee Chong Wei 2:1 after a hard fought match to take away his first individual super series title.In the women’s doubles, Jung Kyung Eun / Kim Ha Na  brushed aside China’s Yi Xin / Zhong Qian Xin with relative ease in straight games, to claim their first super series title. Ko Sung Hyun / Yoo Yeon Seong who were favored by many to win the men’s doubles title, lost in three games to tough Thai opponents and had to settle for second spot.... <FULL ARTICLE>
