The 2013 Malaysian Open Super series has begun; with regards to South Korean payers, Ko Sung Hyun/Lee Yong Dae, who are looking for their fifth tournament win in succession, made it though the first round almost without breaking a sweat, brushing aside their opponents 21-17, 21-7; they will play Thailand’s PATIPHAT/NIPITPHON in the next round and can be expected to go through to the quarter finals with relative ease. Sung Ji Hyun beat a stubborn opponent, Malaysia’s CHEAH Lydia Li Ya, 21-19,21-18, and will play teammate Bae Joun Yoo in the next round.

6th seed, Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying, faced Ireland’s Magee in the first round. The Irish player staged a comeback in the second game but Tai still took the match in straight games, 21-15, 23-21, to go through to the second round;in the next round she will play Hong Kong’s Chan Tsz Ka;in five past meetings Tai has won every time so definitely has the upper hand;as long as she plays to her normal level she has a very good chance of going through to the quarter finals.
In other matches, Indonesia’s veteran Taufik knocked out 3rd seed, Vietnam’s Nguyễn Tiến Minh, 10-21,21-7,21-9; India’s top female singles player Saina Nehwal, took out Singapore’s Gu Juan in straight game, 21-12,21-15, and will face one of Hong Kong’s top singles players, Yip Pui Yin, in the next round.
