South Korea team takes gold after a struggle against China
The men’s team final was the most dramatic of all Asian Games competitions with China, winners of all major competitions in recent years, up against South Korea, famous for impenetrable defense.

Top ranked pair in the men’s doubles Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong

Both teams were highly regarded before the match. South Korea has long excelled in men’s doubles and has three pairs in the Top 10 at present: Lee Yong Dae/ Yoo Yeon Seong at No. 1, Kim Ki Jung/ Kim Sa Rang at No. 4 and Ko Hyun Sung/ Shin Baek Choel (This year’s Badminton World Championship champions)at No. 6. This meant that China would have to do its best in the singles to increase the chance of final victory.

China’s No. 1 singles player Chen Long has beaten South Korea’s Shon Wan Ho almost every time they have played and usually by a large margin. However, in their match, Chen was pinned down by Shon from the start and ended up losing the match, seriously affecting the momentum of the Chinese team.

Shon Wan Ho won a key victory for his team

Although London Olympic games gold medalists Lin Dan and Cai Yun/ Fu Hai Feng fought back by defeating Lee Dong Keun and Kim Ki Jung/ Kim Sa Rang respectively, they were unable to stop South Korea marching on to a 3:2 victory and the gold medal.

Battles that will set Europe alight
The two major badminton tournaments held in October are both in Europe, namely the Denmark Super Series Premier in the third week and the French Series in the fourth week.

The Denmark Super Series Premier came to an end on October 19, currently ranked 4th, “Indonesian Lightning” Tontowi Ahmad/ Liliyana Natsir finishing runners-up. In fact, their ranking is only based on points from nine tournaments. If they do well at the events in France Open, the points they bag are likely to send their ranking up one or two spots.

Indonesian Lightning Tontowi Ahmad/ Liliyana Natsir are ranked fourth in the mixed doubles at present
