‧There should be 10 movements in a set or 20 for those who are relatively fit.
‧The mantra for the exercise is up quick, down slow, down quick, up slow.
‧Rest for a while after each set, and do the next one 1-2 minutes later.

Manta: up quick, down slow

KEY POINTS
‧Stand straight with legs as wide as the shoulders and knees slightly bent, not

    leaning back or forward.

‧Tuck in the abdomen, keep the elbow slightly bent, and lift the dumbell to eye

    height.

Play Better Badminton Training 3:Basic Endurance Concepts

What is lack of endurance?

Fellow players, do you often find that you run out of steam so can’t perform as well as you might before reaching match point. This is often blamed on lack of lack of fitness but it’s more accurate to say it stems from a lack of endurance.
What do you think when you see the word endurance? Marathon runners and triathletes? You are right in both cases. As the picture shows both these sports require activity over a long period of time so need endurance more than most other sports! However, endurance is still needed for badminton and taekwondo etc.

Play Better Badminton Training 2:Lower Limb Strength

Increasing muscle strength not only improves physical ability, it also increases a player’s ability to move around the court quickly and deliver powerful smashes. We know that badminton is a “whole body” sport, requiring upper body strength to allow the shuttlecock to be hit powerfully and also requires good lower body muscle strength so we can move around the court quickly using the 6-point footwork.

We all know that the 6-point footwork is one of the basic steps when learning to play badminton and level of mastery of the footwork will affect how good you play. If you don’t have good lower body muscle strength you won’t be able to move freely around the court through the whole match. This article will show you how to do some simple lower body muscle strength training. The weight used can be adjusted to suit the physical level of the individual (dumbbell or water-filled plastic water bottle). We suggest you gradually increase the intensity of training in terms of weight used, number of movements and sets and frequency of sessions to avoid overload and thus make injury less likely.... <FULL ARTICLE>

2012 BWF World Ranking up to October 4

The two most important international tournaments in September were the Asian Masters held in Changzhou, China and the Japan Open Super Series held in Tokyo. With these two competitions held too close together, most of the better known players chose to appear at the longer established Tokyo tournament.

Of course, the players in Japan and China were determined to perform well in front of their home crowds and the number of points they collected saw a clear increase on other tournaments. This is why, in the BWF world rankings for October released on October 3, the players who have moved up in the Top 10 Club are mainly from these two countries. At present the top spots in the five badminton disciples are held by men’s singles : Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei ; women’s singles : China’s Wang Yi Han ; men’s doubles South Korea’s Lee Yong Dae / Jung Jae Sung ; women’s doubles : China’s Tian Qing / Zhao Yun Lei;and mixed doubles : China’s Xu Zhen / Ma Jin.... <FULL ARTICLE>

One title does not portend success for a player but Tai Tzu Ying’s recent victory in Japan strongly hinted she may be nearing the upper echelons of the women’s game.

The Chinese Taipei teenager – who wrested the Yonex Japan Open Superseries Women’s Singles championship – is among a clutch of young girls, including Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon and India’s PV Sindhu, whose impressive performances increasingly suggest the future of women’s badminton is in collectively capable hands.

Tai did not set any special targets before the final. To begin with, facing home player Hirose Eriko who was looking to be Japan’s first winner of the Japan Open and had vocal support from the home fans, Tai started off quite poorly and made a series of errors partly due to court factors, losing the first game without much of a fight 9:21. After changing sides and moving to her preferred half of the court, she began to attack initiatively, moved her opponent around the court, and speeded up the rhythm of play, in the first half of the game opening up a fearsome 12:0 lead, and going on to take the second game 21:9, showing that she would was determined to win the match and take the title. <FULL ARTICLE>

If you are more muscular will you play better? I think this is question many players ask. How should strengthen training be carried out in a way that will help you play better? We will explain below!

The usual definition of muscle strength is “The maximum power that a muscle can produce doing a certain movement at a certain speed; that is the power value that is measured when a muscle is exerts maximum power a single time.”Increased muscle strength raises physical capability and, when muscle strength increases, joint stability also increases, so you are less likely to get injured when playing ! <FULL ARTIVLE>

Choosing the right racket for you Part 2

After learning how to choose a racket that is ideal for you, let Victor give you a detailed introduction to racket weight and shaft.

【Q】How are racket weight and balance point compared?

【A】Weight and balance point are the two main factors that affect racket feel. If you choose a racket with weight and balance point that match , you will get used to using it more easily.

(1) Weight:
The label shows that the Victor 2U weighs 90.1-95g, the 3U 85.1-90 and the 4U 80.1-85g (this is the unstrung weight). Professionals have weight error of around ±0.5g

(2) Balance point:
The balance point of a racket is usually 295mm. How is the balance point measured? It’s simple, the index finger or a pen can be used to measure it. Place the racket across the index finger and move it side to side to find the balance point, then measure from the bottom end of the racket to the balance point to find the length of the balance point. Heavier rackets give more attacking power but are unwieldy, however, if the balance point is moved forward (towards the head), a “head-heavy” effect can be increased, achieving a relatively good balance between swing agility and attacking capability....<FULL ARTICLE>

Choosing the right racket for you Part 1

It can be said that the racket is a badminton player’s best weapon, and the right racket can also help you play better;this means that choosing the racket that suits you the most is the best way to play better and get the most enjoyment out of playing.

VICTOR will now use a Q&A method to show you how to find the racket that suits you the most!

【Q】I am a beginner and I am worried that, after only swinging a racket a few times in the shop, when I actually play with it I will find it doesn’t suit me. How do I choose a racket that suits me?

【A】VICTOR recommends that, because when you begin to play you are technically immature in every respect, you should choose a racket with a shaft of medium stiffness or one that is slightly soft, and should avoid choosing excessively stiff or soft rackets. If you are an aggressive player who smashes a lot, after playing for a while you can change to a racket with a shaft that is quite stiff. If you are a skillful player who likes to use drop shots and  has less power than the aggressive type of player, choosing a racket with a shaft that is quite soft will help raise your skill level....<FULL ARTICLE>
